The Amalgamations Group is a Chennai-based industrial conglomerate founded in 1938 by the visionary industrialist S. Anantharamakrishnan. The Group took over the 100-year-old Simpsons & Co. in 1941 and steadily built one of South India’s most enduring business ecosystems, spanning engineering, tractors, plantations, and trading.

Addison & Co. Ltd. joined the Amalgamations Group in 1943 — bringing with it over 70 years of heritage as one of Chennai’s most established trading houses. Under the Group’s stewardship, Addison made a pivotal transformation: from a trading company dealing in watches, bicycles, and automobiles, to India’s largest manufacturer of High Speed Steel (HSS) metal cutting tools.
That shift reflects everything the Amalgamations Group stands for: the ambition to build, the capability to manufacture, and the discipline to do it at the highest standards of quality.
Today, Addison sits within the Group’s Engineering & Auto Components vertical — alongside companies such as Simpson & Co., Bimetal Bearings, IP Rings, and Shardlow India. Together, these companies form the backbone of India’s automotive component supply chain.
